Instructions: Step by Step

Step 1: Download, Print & Cut the Pattern

Print the free PDF pattern and cut out all pieces. You'll use these templates for the main wallet, lining, snap tab, and keychain loop.

Step 2: Cut Your Fabric

  • Using the templates, cut cotton fabric pieces and interfacing.
  • Pay attention to when to cut on folds. Line up the top of the paper with the fold of the fabric.
  • Interfacing never needs to be cut on a fold. For interfacing where the main cotton was cut on a fold, the interfacing gets ironed to one half of the cotton, lining the top of the interfacing with the fold.

Step 3: Make Bottom Zipper Pouch

  • Place edges of zipper tabs right sides facing together aligned with each edge of the zipper. Pin. Sew a straight line across each edge of the zipper. Unfold and iron zipper tabs open.
  • Fold the two zipper pieces in the following way: Fold in half, iron. Unfold. Fold edges up to center fold, iron. Without unfolding, fold again in half. This forms a binding.
  • Slide the top zipper edge between one of the bindings. Slide the folded edge of one of the front pockets below the zipper (still between the binding). Pin and sew along the zipper edge and top edge of the binding.
  • Slide the bottom zipper edge between the other binding. Place the folded edge of the front zipper pouch bottom below the binding. Pin and sew along the zipper edge and top edge of binding. You should sew through all 3 layers (zipper, binding, and zipper pouch.

Step 4: Sew the Edge of the Top Pocket

Sew along the folded edge of the top pocket.

Step 5: Make the Snap Closure Tab

  • Fold right sides together and sew down the sides leaving the bottom open.
  • Turn right side out and press flat.
  • Top Stich around the sides (leaving the bottom open).

Step 6: Form the Pouch

  • Place the piece of the wallet back with the interfacing with the right side facing up.
  • Align the bottom unfinished edge of the zipper pocket with the bottom of the wallet back.
  • Align the top unfinished edge of the wallet pocket with the top of the wallet back,
  • Center the unfinished edge of the top flip aligned with the top edge of the wallet back.
  • Sew around the entire edge of the wallet.

Step 7: Line the pouch

  • Place the remaining wallet back cotton fabric right side down on the pouch.
  • Sew around the edges leaving an opening for turning.
  • Turn the wallet and iron flat,
  • Top stitch around the entire wallet, closing the turning gap as you sew.

Step 8: Attach the snaps

  • Fold the top flap to determine snap placement.
  • Using plastic button and plier tool, attach a stop closure from the top flap to the wallet back.
